Renewed Palestinian factional fighting killed 11 people on Monday in Gaza Strip.
According to AFP, three civilians -- a 65-year-old man and two of his sons -- were killed in gunbattles between Hamas and Fatah in the northern town of Beit Hanun. A Hamas fighter and a member of Fatah also died in the fighting.
A 20-year-old man was killed by gunfire in northern Gaza, said medics, who also reported two Palestinians killed in Gaza City, including a member of Fatah who was abducted by Hamas activists, according to his movement.
Another Hamas man also died in Gaza City. Hamas also said that a senior field activist, Naim Dahdouh was executed by Fatah gunmen late on Monday.
Elsewhere, Jamal Abu al-Jadian, a head for northern Gaza of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades was also killed late Monday, security officials said. He fought a gunbattle with Hamas fighters near his home before taking shelter in a nearby house in Beit Lahiya, witnesses said. Abu al-Jadian's refuge was attacked and his body was riddled with 40 bullets, a medic said.
The clashes between the two sides reignited hours after an Egyptian-brokered cease-fire was implemented.
Also Monday, gunmen opened fire at the Palestinian government building during a Cabinet meeting Monday, forcing the ministers to cancel the gathering and flee the premises, an official said. Mohammed Madhoun, an aide to Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, said there were no injuries. But Haniyeh and other ministers left the building after the gunfire erupted.
According to the AP, Palestinian security and witnesses said Hamas and Fatah forces were exchanging fire from neighboring high-rise buildings.
Egyptian mediators, who for months had been trying to calm tensions between the two sides, on Monday once again persuaded the rivals to agree to a new truce, which collapsed shortly after. Many previous ceasefires had been violated within hours of taking effect.
"What's happening in Gaza is regrettable and very harming. Both parties are working seriously with the Egyptian brothers to put an end to it," Abbas told reporters in Ramallah.
Among those killed in the past few days was a Fatah member who was flung to his death off an 18-storey building by Hamas supporters, and imam Mohammed al-Rafati, a brother of a local Hamas leader, who was shot dead at his mosque by Fatah men, security sources said.
And the bullet-riddled body of a Fatah member was found on a Gaza street early on Monday, his legs tied, in what a spokesman for Fatah said was an "execution" by Hamas men.
According to AFP, Hamas sources said that the man was killed by Fatah, who had mistaken him for an Islamist because of his beard.
