Published results this summer show that GEMS International Schools in Dubai offering the English National Curriculum have broken their records for IGCSE, GCSE, AS and A Level exam outcomes.  Every school has seen an improvement in the overall percentage achieved for 5A*-C, including Mathematics and English.

IGCSE / GCSE (Grade 11)

The most significant achievement is that the average for those IGCSE / GCSE students at GEMS International Schools achieving 5A*-C, including Mathematics and English, has risen from 75 per cent in 2009, to just over 80 per cent in 2010. This result is 30 percentage points higher than the UK average last year, which was 50.7 per cent.

The overall pass rate for GCSE at the majority of GEMS Schools is close to 100 per cent. In the UK in 2010, it was 69 per cent.  Thirty six per cent of marks achieved by GEMS students were A* to A – this is 14 percentage points higher than the UK.

A LEVEL (Grade 13)

The pass rate for A level examinations A* - E across all GEMS International Schools offering the English National Curriculum was 98 per cent, which is above the UK national average. It is striking that 52 per cent of GEMS A level students scored A*- B.

GEMS Education believes these results are good news for the business sector in Dubai because they provide clear evidence that the children of expatriate parents will receive an education which surpasses that offered in the United Kingdom.

Ralph Tabberer, Chief of Schools with GEMS Education said, “The impressive results highlight the hard work of our students, the support of their families and the dedication of the teachers. Exam results are not the only benchmark but this year’s performance has again shown we have first rate British curriculum schools and we congratulate our students for their exceptional academic achievements”.

Mr Tabberer added, “One of the commitments GEMS makes to parents is, regardless of the price point of our schools, we offer high quality outcomes for all students.  This is demonstrated admirably by the students and staff of The Westminster School, where 82 per cent of students attained at least 5 GCSE A*-C”.

Outstanding results were achieved at Jumeirah College where 99.2 per cent of students achieved 5 A*-C, with a massive 41.2 per cent of students achieving A* A grades.  This result puts Jumeirah College ahead of all 278 of the high performing UK schools which showcase their 2010 GCSE A* -C results in the Daily Telegraph.

GEMS students go to the best universities in the world including; Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, IIT India, Columbia, New York University, University of Edinburgh and Monash University.

All GEMS International Schools have attained the Council of International Schools membership status which ultimately provides an additional external validation of standards in GEMS schools.
