Liverpool's Steven Gerrard will probably be handed a place in next month's England squad for the Euro 2000 Finals after being surprisingly left out of Howard Wilkinson's Under-21 party.
Gerrard is now in the forefront of Kevin Keegan's thinking for the European Championship in Holland and Belgium.
Although FA technical director Wilkinson refused to guarantee Gerrard a place in the Low Countries, he admitted that Keegan had specifically asked for Gerrard and fellow Under 21s Emile Heskey, Kieron Dyer and Rio Ferdinand to be left out.
Two players who could be disappointed at being included in the Slovakia trip are West Ham midfielder Frank Lampard , who captained the Under 21s through their successful qualifying campaign and Aston Villa defender Gareth Barry another who has figured in the full squad. Both could have expected to be going to Euro 2000 - (Agencies).
