AMMAN ------ March 8, 2010 ----- The Gift of Life Amman (GOLA), a charitable society which facilitates critically needed open-heart surgery for underprivileged children suffering from life-threatening Congenital Heart Defects (CHD), in partnership with Riley Children’s Hospital launched Heart Mission VI at Al-Khalidi Medical Center in the Jordanian Capital.
The February 18th-26th mission provided 13 children from Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, Palestine and Jordan with cost-free life-saving cardiac surgeries to correct congenital defects thus, giving hope to their families and friends.
"With every mission GOLA conducts, we hope to save more lives, enrich local doctors' experience and bridge deeper cultural understanding," Mr. Daoud Abboud, President of GOLA said.
"Our main mission is to save these children no matter who they are; we have learned a lot from the sacrifice of some parents who wanted their children to live; we will continue working on saving more lives and stand by their side," he added.
Some children were lucky enough to arrive in Amman for the surgery such as Akam Jalal, a 2.5 year old Kurdish boy with multiple heart complications who was not allowed to travel by two airlines because of his condition but was able to surprise doctors by showing up for the surgery.
"I really would like to thank all those who worked on saving the lives of 64 children so far and who are willing to dedicate time and effort in answering families' prayers who are devastated by financial woes and cannot help their children," he stated.
Sara, Fatah, Akam, Majd and many more were lucky enough to be saved by dedicated people representing GOLA and other partners but still there are more children who need to be saved.
GOLA which was founded in 2006 by a group of devoted Jordanians and friends of Jordan from different countries works closely with other charitable organizations, clubs and medical personnel to identify the children in most need for correctable cardiac care, coordinating the financial, medical and logistical support for these children and their families.
Through the years, GOLA established several key partnerships with Al Khalidi Medical Center, Amman Surgical Hospital and  Ramallah Center for Cardiology in Jordan while in the US Riley Hospital for Children, Gift of Life International, Children in Need International, Tom Deierlien Foundation, The Rotary Club of Indianapolis North East and Our Children International USA.
