GPS Standard, an Italian company with head office in Arnad (Aosta), a leader in the security sector and in particular in the production of perimeter protection systems and in the most advanced video surveillance applications, is among the main hosts for Intersec 2010 (Dubai, 17-19 January 2010), the largest gathering dedicated to security in the Middle East. For the occasion the company will exclusively present the latest new product, a fruit of the excellent Research and Development department: this is MILES, an invisible perimeter protection system designed specifically for the protection of pipes and pipelines and is based on the use of fibre optic technology.
MILES was born from the specific requirements of an area of the world, the Middle East, particularly sensitive to security themes at public and military level, but also in safeguarding oil extraction facilities, the core business of these countries. In fact there is a growing need to safeguard oil and gas pipelines from frequent sabotage attempts over an extended area, impossible to achieve using traditional techniques.
For this GPS Standard has created MILES, a system aimed at the protection of long gas and oil pipe-lines, up to 50 km, thanks to precise characteristics, plus, in the first place, a complete immunity of the fibre optic cable to electromagnetic disturbances and atmospheric interference, therefore guaranteeing a very high detection capability. Secondly the autonomy of the system, as the does not require any power in the field or along the perimeter to be protected. MILES is also capable of identifying the area in which the sabotage occurred to within a few hundred metres. These are the main advantages of a product that is unique in the market, the result of collaboration with two advanced centres at Turin Polytechnic and the University of Milan.
As well as the presentation of the latest new systems, the GPS Standard stand will provide activities dedicated to the visitors for a more in-depth knowledge of the Company, about the technologies and experience gained in the security environment. “GPS Experience” is an interactive presentation through which it is possible to test the potential of the SCS, software for the central integration and management of different security systems, which is efficient and versatile and represents one of the distinctive innovations of the Company. Also available is a video presentation on the operation of the very first invisible perimeter protection system, patented by the Company in 1974, that is the GPS Plus Ground Perimeter System: it shows a virtual city and its airport with simulations of the different protection to show the operation of the products and their strong points.
