Greater Amman Municipality Handles Blockage in rain water drainage line

As declared by the Manager of Execution Department Eng. Nabeel Al Jariri, that a team of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) had handled today a blocked rain water drainage line, resulting from a surface big flow of water in Princess Basmah St.  in Zahran.

He stressed that the flow caused soil erosion into the drainage line which blocked it later; this issue was resolved by the specialized cadres of GAM, noting that the erosion area will be handled during the few coming days.

Eng. Al Jariri clarified that GAM cadres started removing the plastic tops of the manholes and drainage lines after having been covered in summer to protect them from blockings.

As part of GAM's preparations for winter, GAM has started cleaning and maintaining manholes and rain water drainage lines, entrances and exits of drainage crossings, and opened channels in cooperation with the districts' directorates, in addition to opening sewers for natural currents and valleys using the appropriate machines.

He noted that GAM is working on a complete action plan to face weather conditions during winter and summer annually; this plan depends on full readiness to face up to weather changes.

He added that GAM is keen on increasing efficiency of its technical and mechanical cadres, by renewing and developing many machines (as loaders, jets, settling machines), in addition to purchasing new jets with international specifications to be used in opening rain water drainage lines in case of blockage during rain.

He confirmed the seriousness of GAM's instructions regarding the owners of construction workshops and contractors to keep roads and drainage lines and manholes clean and free of construction materials.

During the current year, GAM had executed rain water drainage works and systems and new crossings in different sites of the city.

These accomplishments and the infrastructural works are radical solutions for some of the problems that occur in rain water drainage in winter. GAM is continuing the rehabilitation of many sidewalks of main roads, the levels of which have almost reached the street's level, for quantification and statistical purposes, the technical teams built supporting walls in different areas of the city for public safety, and to eliminate soil which may close drainage lines.
