Gulf Air is to ban smoking on all flights from September 1st, extending a regional ban, the Manama-based carrier said Tuesday.

Spokesman Chris Taylor told AFP the total ban would come into effect two years after smoking was outlawed on regional flights.

Gulf Air, owned equally by the governments of Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar, joins Qatar Airways, which introduced a global ban last October.

Other Gulf Arab carriers have also imposed smoking bans on at least domestic or regional flights, except Emirates Airlines owned by Dubai - MANAMA (AFP)
