Gholam Reza Aghazadeh, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization officially resigned Thursday according to the ISNA news agency.  According to reports, he had submitted a letter of resignation three weeks ago.

Aghazadeh, who also resigned his position as vice president in Iran, gave no details on the reason for his resignation to the ISNA.  The news agency did not say whether or not his decision is a result of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s reelection, though he has been a long time supporter of opposition leader Mr Hossein Mousavi.

Nuclear officials were not immediately available for comment.
