Heavy overnight rains caused floods and landslides across Slovenia, claiming one life and flooding several houses, Slovene news agency STA reported Tuesday.
A tractor driver was killed early Tuesday while attempting to clear a landslide at the village of Koprivnik, in the northern region of Gorenjsko, when a new landslide threw him into a stream, said police, quoted by STA.
Raging torrents caused the closure of the Jesenice-Lesce railway as well as a railway section from Bohinj to Most na Soci.
Several roads were also closed due to the landslides and floods.
The worst damage was reported near the central city of Celje, where the Logarska valley was completely cut off from the rest of the country after a bridge was damaged.
STA said that though the river Savinja had started receding in the morning, parts of the region were still without electricity -- LJUBLJANA (AFP)
