Hillary Clinton will run again in 2020 after the Democrats sacrifice Joe Biden to bring down Trump in the impeachment scandal, Steve Bannon has claimed.

The President's former chief strategist said that after Biden is out of the way the Democrats will shift allegiance to another candidate, including Hillary Clinton as one of the possible replacements.

He then pointed to the former First Lady's packed list of media appearances this week as evidence she is not out of the running as she claims.

He told Fox Business: 'They think they have a weak field and they're - it's like in chess - they're prepared to sacrifice a rook to take down a king.

'They will throw Biden away to get to Trump and hope Elizabeth [Warren] or I even think Hillary Clinton or [Michael] Bloomberg or some centrist comes in here.'

Clinton is currently doing a circuit of TV networks, ostensibly to speak about a book she wrote with daughter Chelsea called The Book of Gutsy Women.

But she used a pre-recorded interview with CBS Monday to attack Trump as a 'corrupt human tornado', saying he knows that his 2016 win was fraudulent.

She also weighed into the impeachment scandal rocking the White House, saying she backs the Democrat inquiry into whether Trump should be booted from office.

The same evening Clinton appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where she again spoke about impeachment, this time criticising Mike Pompeo for not intervening in Trump's call with Ukraine's president.

During their chat the audience began chanting 'lock him up' - a reference to chants at Trump's rallies of 'lock her up' - prompting Clinton to laugh.

On Tuesday she was back on ABC when she was asked what the gutsiest decision she has ever made was.

'I think the gutsiest thing I've ever done - well, personally - was make the decision to stay in my marriage,' she told Good Morning America.

'Publicly, politically - run for president and keep going. Just get up every day and keep going.'

Trump is currently facing an impeachment inquiry in the House over a call with Ukraine's president in which he asked for help digging up dirt on Biden.

He is also accused of withholding military aid in order to put pressure on the Ukrainian leader, though he denies this.

While the scandal has created bad press for Trump, it has also harmed Biden by bringing negative attention to his time as Secretary of State.

While he is still ahead in national polls his lead is narrowing against Elizabeth Warren, who topped four DNC polls in New Hampshire and Iowa, the first states to hold a vote on who should be the Democrat candidate.
