ALBAWABA - Indian officials revealed that at least six people were killed in a stampede in a Hindu temple in Andhra Pradesh state.
AFP reported, citing officials, that a huge group went to collect entrance tokens to enter Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in southern India on Wednesday when the stampede occurred.
It is worth noting that Hindus are celebrating in the coming days "Kumbh Mela," which is a six-week festival where about 400 million are likely to mark across the country.
Prem Kumar Jain, spokesman of the state's ruling Telugu Desam Party, said in a statement to the media: "The unfortunate incident... has claimed the lives of six devotees. I pray to god to give peace to the departed souls."
In addition, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, took to social media to express condolences over the horrific incident, he wrote on X: "My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones."
AFP also revealed that stampedes are common incidents in India highlighting that last year, 121 people died in the northern Uttar Pradesh state while performing a religious ritual.
