Hizbullah has opened its own investigation into the bombing attack that killed U.N. peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, a Hizbullah source said on Tuesday. "We are carrying out our own investigations and are ready to share (the findings) with UNIFIL (the United Nations Interim Force) if necessary," the source said, according to AFP.

Six peacekeepers -- three Spaniards and three Colombians -- died on Sunday when a bomb hit their armored personnel carrier as they patrolled the road between Marjayoun and Khiam in southern Lebanon.

Residents of the valley of Khiam, a few kilometers from the Lebanese-Israeli border, have reported seeing Hizbullah security officials questioning farmers and restaurant owners in the area where the attack took place. The Hizbullah source said members of the movement were helping the Lebanese army seek information on a Mercedes car which was seen driving around the area the day before the booby-trapped Renault car was placed next to the roadside and detonated by remote control when the peacekeepers drove past.

The army has confirmed that the explosion was operated by remote control and said around 60 kilograms of explosives were used.
