International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) announced today the names of the two lucky winners of the IBQ - MasterCard FIFA World Cup 2006 Promotion.  The prize offered is a once in a lifetime chance to watch France play Togo live at the FIFA 2006 World Cup in Cologne, Germany on 23rd June. This is one of the key deciding matches and IBQ MasterCard holders Ronan John Byrne and Ligendra S. were the two lucky winners selected at a draw at the bank in June.

The IBQ MasterCard promotion prize includes a full dream package, as winners enjoy return flights to Germany and a minimum of two nights stay at top hotels. They will also have the chance to experience full football hospitality on arrival and during their stay and to be part of arguably the most widely watched major sporting events.

The IBQ-MasterCard FIFA World Cup 2006 promotion which was launched in affiliation with MasterCard International, an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2006. IBQ offered its MasterCard customers the chance to win a trip to watch the world’s best football teams compete at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The promotion allowed every IBQ cardholder multiple entries to the draw depending on how often they used their IBQ Mastercards.

One of the winners, an eager football fan and IBQ customer for almost a decade, received the exciting news on his 10th employment anniversary. "It was a complete shock, it took me a while to accept it, but it certainly was a pleasant surprise that arrived just in time as I complete my 10 year employment anniversary." said Ligendra S. a Programmer Analyst with Al-Tayseer Company.

IBQ, previously known as the Grindlays Qatar Bank is one of the oldest Bank's in Qatar and celebrates 50 years of banking in 2006. Previously, it was a member of the ANZ Grindlays banking group. The Standard Chartered group acquired the bank in 2000 and in 2003 sold its stake to local shareholders, which made the bank fully locally owned and independently managed.

In 2004, National Bank of Kuwait acquired 20% stake in the Grindlays Qatar Bank, and assumed management responsibility. At the same time the name was changed to the International Bank of Qatar.
