Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) handled the low weather conditions within the highest emergency status with 24 working teams, 12 ice breakers in Tla’ Al Ali emergency room, and 9 teams in Ras Al Ein Emergency room.
According to City Deputy Manager for Public Works, Eng. Fawzi Mas’ad, ice breakers and other machines removed snow since the very first day to avoid any blockage in the streets of Wasfi Al Tel, Al Hijaz, Medical City, Bachelorette intersection, and Sweileh and Abu Nseir streets.
Mas’ad explained that GAM follows a plan for cleaning the streets, and once the snowfall occurs the priority of the cleaning process will be for the main streets which serve the biggest number of citizens, and the important locations as hospitals, then for the branching streets.
Executive Director of Roads, Engineer Ahmad Malkawi, said that GAM machines handled thin layers of snow which caused slow traffic flow from Khalda intersection to Sweileh, and the main street of Abu Nseir from Al Jubeiha traffic lights to Abu Nseir region.
He also said that GAM cadres followed up on the rain water drainage manholes, ensured its efficiency, and handled any blockages; they also treated any complaints and notes received to the emergency room.
He pointed out that GAM prepared quantities of salt to be used in case of frost and freezing conditions.
GAM called on the citizens to contact the emergency room on the numbers 5359970/71/06 if any water gathering or blockage cases were observed in the Capital streets during the rain or snow drop.
It is worth noting that 150 machines, including ice breakers, crawler machines, loaders, and graders were used by GAM when the emergency status was announced, and distributed within specific lanes through the concerned emergency room.
