Indonesia Pavilion officially opens in Global Village
Global Village, member of Tatweer Dubai hosted the official inauguration of the Indonesia pavilion on January 16, 2009. The pavilion was inaugurated by The Indonesian Consul General in Dubai, Mohammad Wahid Supriyadi, who was accompanied by senior officials from the Indonesian Consulate Office in Dubai.
The opening was celebrated in a unique manner with Indonesian dance performances at the entrance of the pavilion. These cultural dances are considered welcoming ceremonies in Indonesia.
The first show was called Gamelan, a welcoming ceremonial music patterned from a classical Japanese way of attracting the crowd. The next dance was a solo performance called Bali Dancing while the third performance was the Kuda Lumping, originally from the West Java. All these dances are the traditional means of attracting attention as well as making the visitors feel welcome. The performances, organized by the Dubai-based Indonesian group Ketoprak Arts & Events, will be a regular every Friday at the Indonesian Pavilion in Global Village.
During the opening of the pavilion, there was also a show of traditional dresses from the 32 provinces of Indonesia. Moreover, the historic Indonesian mascot popular in warm hospitality called Undil-Undil was also displayed for greater emphasis on the country’s congeniality.
