A series of free seminars by leading names in international agribusiness are to feature in the region’s biggest agri-business trade event later this month.

Running for more than 10 years, AGRA Middle East at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 29-31 March 2010 is regarded as a must-attend event by the region’s industry. The show covers five closely linked sectors – agribusiness; poultry and livestock; fishing and aquaculture; floriculture and newly launched machinery and supplies.

“The Middle East is investing heavily in modern farming methods to reduce dependence on the rest of the world for up to 90% of their food needs and the seminars are designed to help those in this vital business,” said Goutam Malhotra, Exhibition Manager for AGRA Middle East.

The AGRA seminars will cover topics such as natural insect treatments, the latest technologies in aquaculture, the first 10 days in the life of a chick, and ecological and economical farm management.
“The session by Edwin Willemsen from Dutch company b-Cat, will be of particular interest to local companies wanting to fumigate, conserve or protect their food supply, naturally,” said Malhotra.
“Normal air contains 20,9% oxygen and 78,1% nitrogen and through B-Cat’s ZerOx system the oxygen level in an airtight environment can be reduced through a process of filtering and ‘scrubbing’ to below 0.5%, leaving a high concentration of nitrogen.
“Under these conditions, all insects including eggs and larvae suffocate and dry out leaving a completely fumigated food supply within 4 to 10 days,” added Malhotra.
Elsewhere on the agenda, AGRA has also attracted Jacob Bregnballe and Harald Jelsa experts at world renowned Norwegian aquaculture technology group AKVA and Jan Hulzebosch from SALMET Poultry Equipment, a German company that develops, manufactures and distributes high quality poultry equipment around the world.

“Our seminars are extremely popular and we are advising visitors to log on to the show website (www.agramiddleeast.com) to pre-register in order to attend the sessions. The experts will be presenting details of the latest technology and equipment to increase local food production,” he added.
AGRA Middle East is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Water, Dubai Municipality and Dubai Flower Centre and sponsored by Dubiotech.
