ALBAWABA—Following the EU and UK's announcement of imposing sanctions on Iran, the foreign ministry released a statement slamming the new sanctions, saying such a move is "unjustified."
"While the president of Ukraine has admitted that no Iranian ballistic missiles have been exported to Russia, the measures of the European Union and the United Kingdom in applying sanctions against Iran cannot be justified," ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement.
The European Union bolstered sanctions against Iran on Monday for providing backing for Russia's war in Ukraine, including targeting vessels and ports used to carry drones and missiles, while Britain also increased its measures.
Tehran condemned the EU's decision to restrict the export, transfer, supply, or sale of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) components to Iran.
It also prohibits any transaction with ports "owned, operated, or controlled" by sanctioned individuals and entities, as well as any other activity used to supply Russia with drones, missiles, related technologies, and weaponry.
