ALBAWABA- In a high-stakes security operation early Friday morning, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the killing of Wali Mohammad Shahbakhsh, the operational commander of Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), formerly Jundallah, in the Korin region of Zahedan, southeastern Iran.

The offensive was part of the “Martyrs of Security” maneuvers. The IRGC also reported the arrest of several armed members of the group and the seizure of a cache of weapons and ammunition.

One IRGC Basij member, Mojahedin Ishaq Mokhtari, was also killed in the operation.

Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice) is a Sunni Baloch group founded in 2012, following the decline of Jundallah, a similar separatist group previously active in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province.

Based primarily in southeastern Iran near the border with Pakistan, the group claims to fight for the rights of the Sunni Baloch minority in Iran, accusing Tehran of systematic marginalization and oppression.

Jaish al-Adl has been involved in numerous cross-border attacks, kidnappings, and bombings targeting Iranian military and security forces.

Iran designates the group as a terrorist organization, and its activities have significantly strained Tehran’s relations with Islamabad, given the porous and volatile border area.
