Volvo Trucks has received an order for 500 Volvo FH12 trucks from Iran, Middle East Newsline (MENL) reported.

This is the first order for the Volvo FH12 from Iran, and it represents a significant shift in technology for the country's transport industry, said the agency.

The new agreement between Volvo Trucks and Saipa Diesel was ratified this February by the Iranian Ministry of Industry.

The trucks will be supplied in so-called CKD or Completely Knocked-Down kits, and they will be assembled in Teheran, it added.

Roar Isaksen, senior vice president and manager of the international division at Volvo Trucks, was quoted by MENL as saying that "the order shows that customers in this region are prepared to invest in an advanced new model such as the Volvo FH12. We look forward to further boosting our position on this market."

Since the early 1970s, Volvo Trucks has supplied more than 40,000 heavy trucks to Iran, giving the company a leading position in this market. In some years, Volvo's supplies to Iran have totaled between 4,000 and 5,000 heavy trucks a year – Albawaba.com
