Iran has called on Syria to maintain strong relations and cooperation under the present sensitive conditions, especially in light of US and Israeli threats.

Iran's visiting Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi told a group of Syrian parliamentarians on Monday that common enemies of Tehran and Damascus have a bitter experience of close ties between the two Muslim states and would never turn a blind eye to them.

Karroubi said that strong cooperation between Iran

and Syria will thwart enemy plots under current sensitive conditions, according to IRNA news agency.

He stressed the importance of relations and cooperation between Tehran and Damascus, which have thus far positively affected the victory of Lebanese resistance, the humiliating and historic defeat of Israel

and the continuation of Palestinian resistance, the agency added.

For his part, Syrian Speaker of People's Assembly Mahmoud

al-Abrash told the audience that Iran and Syria are actively contributing to restoration of security and stability in the region despite the ongoing unfavorable conditions, IRNA added.

Stressing promotion of bilateral parliamentary cooperation relations, al-Abrash said the visit by Iran's top

parliamentary delegation to Syria aims to bolster mutual cooperation. (Albawaba.com)
