Iran condemned the United States' newly imposed sanctions Monday, pointing to Washington's arms sales in the Middle East, Reuters reports.
"The US sanctions against Iran's ballistic missile program ... have no legal or moral legitimacy," foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari said in a televised news conference.
"America sells tens of billions of dollars of weaponry each year to countries in the region. These weapons are used in war crimes against Palestinian, Lebanese and most recently Yemeni citizens," he said.
On Sunday the US issued new sanctions against Iran for its ballistic missile program, only a day after sanctions targeting Iran’s nuclear energy program were lifted.
Additionally, five Iranian citizens and a network of companies based in the United Arab Emirates and China were also blacklisted by the US.
