Eight people in Iran were killed and 10 hurt when a passenger train slammed into a truck at a crossing southeast of Tehran, the official IRNA news agency said Tuesday.
Several of the injured are in serious condition after Monday's accident, which occurred when the truck did not stop at the crossing but instead cut to the head of a queue of waiting cars and began to drive across the rails.
The driver fled the vehicle just before the train piled into it at high speed, knocking the truck into four of the waiting cars, IRNA said, citing a railway spokesman.
Six people died in those cars on the spot while another two later died in hospital, it said -- TEHRAN (AFP)
