Iranian police dismantled an abortion center in the central province of Isfahan and arrested five people, the Eteleat paper said Saturday.

The men and women arrested, who are employees at the center, are accused of carrying out "willful interruption of pregnancy," the paper said adding that police discovered the center after receiving information from local residents.

According to the report, the center received some 1,500,000 Rials (170 US dollars) for each abortion.

Abortions are strictly forbidden in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution in conformity with the Islamic Sharia law, but can be allowed if the mother's life is in danger - TEHRAN (AFP)
