Iran's President Mohammad Khatami called for a massive and enthusiastic participation of the Iranian nation in the upcoming elections.
Making the remarks while talking to reporters after a visit to the Interior Ministry's Elections Headquarters Tuesday, he stated that the Iranian nation, with its rich historical record of taking wise steps towards progress and development, will go to ballot boxes on June 17 to vote for its favorite candidate, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Noting that Iran now enjoys a very high profile in the world arena, he said anybody who becomes next president has to endeavor to safeguard the present image of the Iranian nation in the globe and try to further enhance it.
He referred to freedom, independence and progress based on religious values as the deeply-rooted demands of the Iranian nation and believed the nation should vote for the candidate who is truly committed to people's rights, people's right to determine its destiny and development of a civil society which is built upon religious values and civil rights.
