The Iranian parliament adopted Tuesday a law that would allow "victims of American interference" in Iran to sue the United States in Iranian courts, a parliamentary source was quoted by AFP as saying.

Tehran Times newspaper said the move “comes after the US government agreed to pay millions of dollars to American plaintiffs who accuse Iran of state-sponsored terrorism under a 1996 antiterrorism law.

Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Ali Nazari, told the paper that most MPs support the bill.

He said one of the most important measures to be taken by the parliament was to consider the interests of the people, noting that the bill fulfills this right.

Nazari stressed that those who have been wronged by US policies since 1953 will be able to file suits against Washington in Iranian public courts, according to the paper.

He said The Hague International Court should study the available international mechanisms for executing the bill, adding that the legal commission of the parliament will act as the main body, and the Supreme National Security Council as the secondary one in order to enforce the bill.

“We should pursue legal ways through the Majlis [parliament] to this end,” adding that after the “Majlis approves the bill, the Foreign Ministry should take action for its enforcement.”

According to Tehran Times, the bill also covers losses caused by terrorist groups supported by foreign governments, such as the MKO that is backed by the US – (Several Sources)
