Iran's parliament speaker, Hojatoleslam Mehdi Karroubi, left Tehran on Sunday for an official visit to Amman, to review the latest regional developments and expand bilateral ties with senior Jordanian officials, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
Karroubi's three-day visit to the Jordanian capital is in response to an invitation made by his Jordanian counterpart Abdel-Hadi Majali, said the agency.
During his visit, the Iranian speaker is to meet Jordan's prime minister, Ali Abu Ragheb, foreign minister, Abdul-Ilah Khatib, and speakers of the house of deputies and senate as well as other senior officials of the country.
Kharroubi and his accompanying politico-economic delegation, after concluding talks with Jordanian officials, will proceed to Bulgaria for another three-day official visit, said IRNA.
The agency quoted Majali as telling local press that Karroubi's visit will be a major step towards strengthening Tehran-Amman ties.
Prior to his departure, Karroubi expressed hope that the exchange of visits between Iranian and Jordanian officials will lead to further expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Jordan's King Abdullah II will pay an official visit to Tehran in late February. He is due to meet with President Mohammed Khatami and Leader Ayatollah Khamenei as well top Iranian officials -- Albawaba.com
