A suicide car bomber struck an Interior Ministry convoy in Baghdad on Sunday, killing five police commandos and four civilians, police said. Six members of anti-terrorist "Wolf Brigade" were injured in this attack in eastern Baghdad, police Col. Salam Abddelkarim said, according to The AP.
The attack on the police patrol came shortly after a bomb mounted on a bicycle killed one person and injured 48 at a market in Hillah, a city about 60 miles south of Baghdad, Dr. Mazen Abdul-Sada at Hillah General Hospital said. The blast in Hillah appeared to target a music shop.
Meanwhile, 10 armed men loyal to the Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr were killed in clashes Sunday after US forces moved into Sadr City, a Shiite district of eastern Baghdad, an interior ministry official said.
The clashes erupted when US soldiers tried to arrest Mehdi Army leaders, the official added. A defense ministry official confirmed clashes took place, but put the toll at eight militiamen killed and five wounded.
