A recently published poll in Iraq indicated that al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden was voted as the political personality of 2001.
In a radio and television survey conducted in Iraq, 93 percent of respondents selected Bin Laden as the political figure of the year.
The Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden is the political personality of 2001 for his hostility towards American hegemony and aggression against Afghanistan," the announcer said.
Al-Jumhuriya and al-Zawra newspapers also selected Bin Laden as the man of the year, labeling U.S. President George W. Bush as “the most stupid personality” of the year.
Meanwhile, U.S.-based Time Magazine, known for its selection of ‘Person of the Year,” selected former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for year 2001. There was some speculation that Time would name Bin Laden as ‘Person of the Year.’ (Albawaba.com)
