The Israeli army attacked Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip with tank and aircraft fire on Friday.
Palestinian security sources said that the Israeli fire hit Hamas military observation posts at three locations along the Israel-Gaza frontier.
The Israeli army acknowledged the strikes in a statement and claimed that they took place after shots were fired at troops on the Israeli side of the border.
There were no reports of casualties on either side.
Palestinians in Gaza have for more than a year gathered at least weekly along the border protests, calling on Israel to end its blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has been in place for over a decade.
However, there were no reports of protests at the time of the strikes.
At least 264 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by Israeli forces since the protests began. Many of the protesters were killed by aircraft and tanks. Two Israeli soldiers have been killed over the same period.
