Activists from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip fired a rocket into southern Israel on Thursday in violation of a calm agreement, Israeli police said. According to Reuters, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the rocket landed near the city of Sderot but there were no casualties or damage.

In response to the strike, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered all Gaza-Israel border crossings closed.
