The Israeli authorities demolished on Tuesday the house of a Palestinian they suspected of shooting and killing a 19-year-old Jewish settler earlier in the day, said eyewitness without identifying the man.

The settler, Itamar Yeffe, was shot in the head by Palestinian gunfire in the Gaza Strip and has died of his wounds in a hospital in Beer Sheva. He lived in the Jewish settlement of Gush Katif.

He was shot near the Jewish settlement of Kfar Darom, close to the location where a roadside bomb Monday killed two Israeli settlers on a school bus and wounded 16 others.

Yeffe was driving in a convoy escorted by the army when he was wounded.

"A single shot was fired and it hit him in the head," a military source said, quoted by AFP.

Hospital officials earlier announced his death before later retracting their statement.
