Israel Electric Corporation, which supplies electricity to the Palestinian lands, has threatened to cut power off from Gaza Strip if the Palestinian National Authority does not pay its bills, totalling 17 million shekels.
Palestinian Minister of Housing and Energy Abdul Rahman Hamad told Albawaba.com that the PNA “cannot fulfill its commitments under the current circumstances. We have not been able to collect the bills owed by the citizens.”
The threat came at a time when construction work has stopped at the Palestinian power station in Gaza, the first stage of which has been completed.
When completed, the station will meet all electricity demands in the Palestinian-controlled areas, but since violence erupted in the Palestinian lands the project has been stopped.
