Sharon Harosh, an Israeli citizen wanted on charges of fraud in the United States, was extradited Friday, US Attorney Mary Jo White said.
"Harosh is believed to be the first Israeli-born fugitive to be extradited from Israel, and is one of the first fugitives to be extradited under an Israeli law enacted on April 19, 1999, which provides for the extradition of Israeli citizens," White said in a statement.
Harosh, 26, was arrested by Israeli police on July 7, 1999 on an international arrest warrant issued by the United States.
He is accused of swindling stock market investors through an investment firm he founded in New York, Goldman Lender, raking in more than 300,000 dollars for himself and accomplices.
An Israeli court ruled in March that Harosh could be extradited to the United States, and the Supreme Court upheld the decision on November 15, citing the new law.
If found guilty Harosh faces up to ten years in prison and fines of at least 500,000 dollars. The sentence must be served in the United States, White added.
