Israeli troops late Monday night shot dead a lieutenant from the Palestinian national security forces during an attack on a Palestinian position in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian security sources said.
Earlier Monday night, Israel released prominent Palestinian prisoner Tayseer Khaled, a senior member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, from an Israeli lockup in the West Bank. Khaled, who was kidnapped by Israeli forces in February 2003, represents the DFLP to the PLO as an executive committee member.
Immediately after his release Khaled met with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in Ramallah.
About another 100 Palestinian prisoners, mainly on the brink of release or in bad health condition, were freed Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces overnight Tuesday arrested seven Palestinians in the West Bank. Also overnight Tuesday, occupation troops north of Tulkarem, demolished the home of a Palestinian activist. (Albawaba.com)
