Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy will decide Sunday whether to remain in the government or not, after a meeting scheduled with Prime Minister Ehud Barak, reported Haaretz newspaper.

Sources from One Israel and Likud parties said that "in light of the failure of the Camp David talks and his lack of involvement in the negotiations, Levy is set to step down from the government."

Levy's aides spent the weekend checking with Knesset legal experts the possible implications of Levy voting against the prime minister in the no-confidence vote on Monday.

"If Levy votes against the government, he might not be able to join the Likud or any other political party ahead of the next elections, and instead he might have to run at the head of an independent party - which would signal the end of his political career," said one source.

The source added that "Likud members have thus promised Levy that if he steps down from the government and a unity government is formed while the Knesset is on its summer recess, the Likud will not be a part of it unless Levy is promised a senior position." - Albawaba.com
