ALBAWABA - The Israeli army said on Sunday that it will expand operations in the North West Bank announcing that Israeli tanks will be operating in Jenin.

The Jerusalem Post reported that this is the first time in 20 years that Israeli tanks will be used in operations in the West Bank. The army also confirmed that soldiers of the Duvdevan and Nahal units were deployed in the area.

After the Gaza ceasefire deal, the Israeli army announced on Jan. 21 the launch of a large-scale operation to thwart terrorism, dubbed Operation Iron Wall.

This comes amid the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announcement on Saturday that Israel will delay the release of Palestinian prisoners as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement which includes the release of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7, in exchange for the release of Palestinians from Israeli jails.

Israel claimed that the delay was in response to Hamas's alleged repeated violations of the ceasefire-hostage deal.

On the other hand, "What the enemy government is doing by postponing the release of our prisoners according to the agreement is behaving like thugs and exposes the entire agreement to grave danger," AFP cited senior Hamas official Bassem Naim.
