Islamic investment awards 2009

Winners of two prestigious Islamic investment awards were recognised yesterday at an impressive gala dinner ceremony of the 5th Annual World Islamic Funds & Capital Markets Conference, held at the Gulf International Convention Centre, Kingdom of Bahrain.  Hosted in collaboration with the Central Bank of Bahrain and Ernst & Young, the awards are the most prestigious in the industry and were  these year presented by Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al-Baker, Executive Director of Financial Institutions Supervision, Central Bank of Bahrain.

The WIFCMC Funds Excellence Award 2009 was awarded to Ithmaar Bank recognizing its outstanding contributions & achievements in the development of the Shari’ah-compliant funds industry through significant achievements and initiatives, such as international leadership, new fund product innovation, and promoting the growth of the industry. Sheikh Salman Al Khalifa Managing Director-Group Business Development, Ithmaar Bank received the award on behalf of the institution.

The second award presented at the gala dinner, The WIFCMC Capital Markets Excellence Award 2009 recognised HSBC Amanah for its excellence in the development of international Islamic capital markets, and for their pioneering initiatives in the Sukuk market, such as leadership and product innovation.  HSBC Amanah is a front runner of many of the major innovative Sukuk deals, pioneering some of the firsts in various jurisdictions. The Bank has also played major roles in the establishment of local Islamic debt capital markets in key countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where HSBC has led ALL Saudi Riyal (SAR) public Sukuk issuances. In 2008, HSBC Amanah lead managed a number of Sukuk Transactions and has also opened up sizeable operations in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

More than 400 international delegates attended the 5th Annual World Islamic Funds & Capital Markets Conference, cementing its position as the largest and most important gathering on the global Islamic investments industry calendar.
