Izzat El Aleily has been excused from the latest Artist Union Law, stating that no actor can star in more than one series during the Ramadan season.
According to ‘Al Sharq El Awsat’ newspaper, the Artist Policy Committee of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture had exempted Alaily from a rule of one series per actor because Egypt Television had already cast the actor in three of its Ramadan productions.
The Minister of Information Safwat AL Sharif said that the reasons behind their change of heart is that Aleily’s three series, Al Hassan Al Basri, Al Aqdar (The Fates) and Bawabat Al Halawani (Halawani Gate) are important shows depicting great periods of Egypt’s history.
Al Hassan Al Basri, written by Ayed Al Rabat and directed by Ahmad Tawfiq, depicts the story of the Imam Al Zahed Al Hassan Al Basri, one of the Imams responsible for the historic change of rule from the Ummayad family, to the Muawiah family.
Al Aqdar, based on a story by famous author Najib Mahfouth and directed by Khaled Bahgat, takes place during the Pharonic era in Egypt and the role of King Kufu at the time.
Meanwhile, Aleily’s third series, the fourth installment of Bawabat Al Halawani, is directed by Ibrahim Al Sahn and written by Mahfouth Abdul Rahman.
This time, the series explores the era of Mohammad Ali Basha and the political, cultural and economic changes at the time – Albawaba.com.
