Seiichi Otsuka, the recently appointed Japanese Consul General to Dubai made an official visit to the Jebel Ali Free Zone to discuss further expansion of business and commercial relations between Japan and Dubai.
Talks between Mr. Otsuka and Mr. Ibrahim Al Janahi, Chief Commercial Officer of Jafza focused on the business opportunities and the available infrastructure and upcoming developments in Jebel Ali Free Zone, where about 117 Japanese companies are currently based. Mr. Otsuka was given an extensive presentation about Jebel Ali Free Zone, followed by a tour of its various facilities.
Ibrahim Al Janahi commented that the meeting was an ideal occasion to re-iterate Jafza’s commitment to enhancing bi-lateral trade with Japan. He said: “It was a fruitful meeting and we are pleased with the support the Consul General offered to Jafza’s efforts to maximize and facilitate the businesses of the various Japanese companies based in the Free Zone. We are very keen to further enhance the current standing and forge more long-term sustainable partnerships with businesses in Japan.”
Jafza is home to Japanese conglomerates including Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic, Sanyo, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors, Nichibo, Mitsui & Co, Obayashi, and Sumitomo Corporation among others.
UAE remains Japan's top export market in the Gulf. Trade ties between Dubai and Japan have been steadily rising. According to Dubai World’s Statistics Department, the overall trade between the two countries from January to September 2009 was valued at Dhs18.7 billion.
