A Palestinian Jihad movement activist was killed in an assassination operation carried out by Israeli special units in the village of Artas. Another attempt targeted head of the Palestinian intelligence, Tawfiq Tiraw when the Israeli forces launched an attack on his Jericho headquarters, injuring 15.
Nine other Palestinians were injured later in clashes with Israeli soldiers and Jewish settlers in the village of Al Khader near Bethlehem in the West Bank, according to Al Jazeera satellite channel.
Earlier, Israeli troops assassinated a member of the Islamic Jihad movement in the West Bank city of Bethlehem.
The victim was identified as Ahmed Asaad Khalil, said the TV channel.
It added that Khalil was killed when Israeli snipers fired 25 bullets at him as he was standing at the entrance to his house.
Khalil had been imprisoned in Israel for a number of years, said Haaretz newspaper, adding that the Israeli army said it was unaware of the incident.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials admitted Saturday that the Israeli attack on the Palestinian Intelligence headquarters in Jericho had been aimed at Tirawi, who Israel accuses of "organizing the terror in the West Bank," reported Haaretz newspaper, citing Israel Radio.
During the attack, Israeli tanks shelled the Palestinian Intelligence headquarters, injuring nine Palestinians, two of them seriously. Eight mobile trailers were burnt and four vehicles were destroyed, said the radio.
Israel has assassinated more than 20 Intifada activists, including members of Fateh movement, Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Upon his arrival to Gaza, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat condemned the attacks, which he said were targeting all Palestinian leaders.
Meanwhile, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA said that a Palestinian police officer died Saturday of injuries he sustained in clashes with Israeli troops last month.
He was identified as Obeid Abu Oreiban, 58, from Nussiarat refugee camp in Gaza.
Palestinians from the West Bank village of Nahlin hurled rocks at Upper Beitar, one of the Gush Etzion bloc of Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Army Radio reported that Israeli troops arrived at the scene, said Haaretz.
On Saturday night Palestinians also shot at an Israeli position at Har Grizim in the West Bank. No injuries or damage were reported, said the paper - Albawaba.com
