Jordan cracks down on jihadists

Authorities have detained a Jordanian-American jihadist, Islamist sources said Wedensday, as part of an ongoing security crackdown that has led to the arrests of dozens of hard-line Islamists.

Raed Hijazi, a Jordanian with US citizenship who has previously spent nearly a decade in prison for various terrorism charges, was detained late last month, according to Saed Huneiti, a senior leader of the hard-line Jihadi Salafist movement.

He said a patrol car pulled the 40-year-old over for a routine check on the outskirts of Salt and then arrested him.

No charges have been filed against Hijazi, Huneiti told The Jordan Times.
