Jordan Web Awards announces 2009 Winners in Web Design and Development

Under the patronage of Mr. Marwan Juma, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT), the winners of the Jordan Web Awards (JWA) for the year 2009 were announced on Saturday February 20th, 2010, at the Grant Hyatt Amman Hotel at a ceremony attended by over 350 guests. Organized by MediaScope, in cooperation with the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy, this is the fourth consecutive awards ceremony to take place in Jordan since 2006.

Marwan Juma stated, “A website is recognized across the board as an important and effective tool of knowledge and a means of communication, reflecting the common belief that internet marketing has become a booming industry around the world and especially in Jordan. The MoICT is committed to honoring and recognizing talents in web development with a focus on content development, which will ultimately increase Internet penetration and the use of computers across the Kingdom.” 

As the only awards program to recognize the highest standards of excellence in website design and development, this year's edition of the Jordan Web Awards received 148 entries, representing more than 40 different companies in Jordan. The awards covered 30 categories and were presented to 27 winners, including development companies, direct clients and individuals in addition to special and honorary awards.

This year’s Jordan Web Awards attracted prominent participants including web development companies such as Media Plus, Dot Jo, Syntax, Madison Digital, Wunderman, Arabic Pearl, Eskadenia Software, Zero3, WSI, Oriental CIS, Spring Technologies, Soft Pages, Creations, Grandoka, Crown IT, Maraqa Web Development, Green Hat and others.
Media Plus received the 'Web Company of the Year' award, while Dot Jo was the first runner up, and Syntax & Spring was the second runner up. The ranking is determined based on the number of Gold, Silver and Bronze awards won by the participant. The Gold award is equivalent to three points, Silver is equivalent to two points and bronze is equivalent to one point.

Other Special awards included the ‘Website of the Year’ award that was presented to the Amman Centennial site (, the ‘Microsoft Website’ was awarded to ecPulse (, the ‘Best Arabic Knowledge Content’ award was presented to Arab World Net (, while the annual honorary award went to Urdun Mubdi3 (        

Recognizing its stature and prestige, JWA attracted distinguished sponsors with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 as the Platinum Sponsor, Jeeran as the Gold Sponsor, and the Silver Sponsors being Arab Orient Insurance Company, eWaseet, Al Ghad Newspaper and Supporters of the Jordan Web Awards are the Ministry of ICT, int@j, Jordan Computer Society, Ayna, BSA and Microsoft.

During her speech at the JWA, Rula Ammuri, Country Manager of Microsoft Jordan, stated, “All of us at Microsoft are fully committed to supporting every effort in making Jordan the web development hub in the region. There are two ways that we plan to go about supporting you in this endeavor-- we want to provide you with the tools and technologies to do more, to be more creative and to be even more innovative. Secondly, we want to provide you with as much access as possible to our resources and global expertise that will enable you to further develop your skills and talents in this vital sector.”

The Jordan Web Awards is a member of the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy, led by Pierre Moukarzel, which oversees the organization of local web awards ceremonies across the region in several countries including Lebanon, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait, which culminate in the regional competition, the Pan Arab Web Awards ceremony, held in Dubai.
