Jotun Paints unveils new ‘Megagloss’ topcoat in the Middle East

Jotun Paints, one of the world's leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, launched to the Middle East market its newest yachting product – ‘Megagloss HG’, a safe and trouble-free polyester-polyurethane topcoat, during a ceremony held today (September 19, 2010) at in Dubai Maritime City. The new top coat has been formulated to provide long-term resistance to UV light, erosion, impacts and chemicals, the new topcoat is the result of almost four years of development by the Norwegian main corporate laboratory, in close co-operation with the worldwide Yacht Concept Centre in Barcelona. As a testament to the excellent quality of ‘Megagloss HG’, Jotun revealed that the new product has been used by expert application company Rolling Stock to paint ‘SY Canica’, a luxury sailing yacht moored in Palma de Mallorca, Marina Port de Mallorca. By launching the newest addition to its yachting product range in the Middle East, the company aims to strengthen its presence in the marine paints segment by attracting the interest of yacht and superyacht owners in the region. “To come up with the formulation for ‘Megagloss HG’, we have boosted the same properties that have made our previous topcoats the choice for many luxury yacht and superyacht in the region by leveraging our Norwegian laboratory’s long-term experience in manufacturing environmentally-complaint topcoats with high solids and low VOC content and zero ethyl glycol acetate,” said Stein Kjolberg, Regional Marine Director, Jotun Paints. “Given the volume of these kinds of luxury vessels in the region, we are confident that the launch of this new product will help drive our overall regional growth and further underline our leading position within the marine paint segment.” Boasting of a revolutionary binder-catalyst combination that utilises a breakthrough technology that improves flow-out/levelling, a 1:1 mixing ratio and excellent colour stability during long-term shelf storage, ‘Megagloss HG’ is available in variants of standard colours and a range of custom colours to meet our customer needs. It also has great levelling properties, extremely high gloss levels (around 94 G.U. at 60º) and high resistance to UV light, as well as outstanding resistance to abrasion, salt spray and water. “’Megagloss HG’ is the only topcoat available today that will consistently provide, in many kinds of application situation, the glassy, smooth shine and deep, rich colour that all yacht and super yacht owners strive for.
