The Spanish daily El Mundo said Monday it was concerned about the fate of its correspondent who was traveling with a convoy that was attacked in eastern Afghanistan, leaving four dead.
El Mundo said in its website edition that it had been unable to reach correspondent Julio Fuentes who was traveling on a road near Jalalabad used to reach Kabul from Pakistan.
"El Mundo's correspondent in Afghanistan was traveling in the convoy and there is great concern at the offices of the newspaper in Madrid because no one has been able to reach him," it said.
El Mundo said four western journalists and an interpreter were killed in the attack near Jalalabad.
The bodies of three foreigners and one Afghan were seen along a road 90 kilometers (55 miles) east of Kabul at Pouli-es-the-Kam by some bus passengers, including the driver, Khan Akha, who spoke to AFP -- MADRID (AFP)
