There will be no stability in the Middle East until Israel complies with United Nations resolutions, which call for an exchange of land for peace, Saudi King Fahd warned in a communiqué on Tuesday.

Stability "depends on the implementation by Israel of international resolutions" on the Middle East, King Fahd was quoted as telling his cabinet during a meeting Sunday night.

On the Arab summit in Cairo, he said, "the Arabs have chosen the path of a just and comprehensive peace based on the principle of the exchange of land for peace and international resolutions with the aim of ensuring security and stability in the region."

The king said he hoped the summit would help to build "a united and solid Arab position with regard to Arab causes, notably the Palestinian people who are the target of inhuman action by Israel, which is massacring unarmed civilians."

The Saudi cabinet welcomed the results of the Cairo summit, which ended on Sunday with an agreement to set up two funds worth a total of one billion dollars for the Palestinians.

Riyadh, which proposed the new funds, has pledged 250 million dollars.

At least 135 people have died, nearly all Palestinians, in the clashes between Israelis and Palestinians which began on September 28 – RIYADH (AFP)
