Kohler Co., a global leader in the manufacture of kitchen and bath products in America since 1873, has been chosen by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense program as the Manufacturing Partner of the Year for the second consecutive time.
Water is one of the world’s most precious natural resources. It is essential to life and must be conserved. Kohler Co. is addressing current environmental challenges to drive innovations. Kohler’s aim is to help its customers to act responsibly on behalf of the planet by offering efficient products designed to help consume only what is necessary – without sacrificing comfort, design or performance. Working toward sustainability is an ongoing priority for Kohler, and creating water-conserving products has been a key component since the 1970s.
Kohler’s first win in 2007, inspired new products and programs like converting all its lavatory faucets to adhere to the WaterSense guidelines, with full conversion completed in the first quarter of 2009.
“Kohler is honoured to be recognized by the EPA for the company’s efforts promoting the WaterSense program. And, we are extremely proud to be the first and only two-time recipient of this significant award for water efficiency,” said David Kohler, president and COO for Kohler Co. “Kohler has a large stake in the availability of clean, safe water. Because water is integral to the very function of our products, and to the experience of those who use our products, our company has an implicit responsibility to raise the public awareness about how to use water more efficiently.”
EPA launched the WaterSense Awards program in 2008, honoring work performed during 2007. Kohler received the inaugural award in 2008. The Partner of the Year awards recognize WaterSense partners who help advance the overall mission of WaterSense; increase awareness of the WaterSense program in a measurable way; and demonstrate overall excellence in the water-efficiency arena.
WaterSense, the EPA’s voluntary public-private partnership program, seeks to protect the future of the nation’s water supply by promoting water efficiency and enhancing the market for water-efficient products, programs and practices. Plumbing fixtures and faucets that qualify for the WaterSense label assure consumers of actual water savings and strict performance standards.
Kohler prominently displays the WaterSense logo in product literature, on its Web site, at trade shows and regularly conducts continuing education courses on water efficiency. These courses are hosted across the country, where architects, designers, builders and plumbers learn from Kohler-trained associates the importance of specifying water-saving products inside the home, and the ultimate benefits to the end customer.
With Kohler products, homeowners enjoy design and performance. The company’s water-saving faucets, showerheads and toilets deliver the smart designs, beautiful style and singular level of quality that is expected from a global industry leader. A global team of engineers works tirelessly to develop technologies that improve water-use efficiency. Kohler’s dedication to the environment is comprehensive, with a global sustainability goal of a net zero environmental footprint by 2035.
Kohler’s remarkable achievements in environmentally sustainable technologies, is particularly relevant considering the recently held United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has partnered with Kohler to design and create water-saving products and technologies, has also played a major role in the Climate Change Conference.
The EPA’s main aim has been to highlight energy efficient investments and global commitments, including its involvement with Kohler, to introduce policies and product technologies that will combat the adverse effects of water and energy consumption.
