Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) decided to form a rescue team to protect lives of workers at oil refineries from dangers they could be exposed to while performing their duties, Kuwait’s official news agency (KUNA) reported Saturday.

Director of Al Ahmadi port refinery, Abdelhadi Abu Sakher told the agency that “this step is the first in the history of the company and oil sector in the country.”

“The nature of work at refineries especially during maintenance times when workers are obliged to enter dangerous locations could expose them to unexpected accidents,” said Abu Sakher.

Other teams used to help in such incidents but right now "we will be seeking the help of our own team," KUNA reported.

Among the future goals of the rescue team, said KUNA, is to plan and supervise entering closed and dangerous places and polluted areas in order to prevent any accidents that could cause death or serious injuries.

The three refineries of KNPC are Al Ahmadi port refinery which is the biggest and currently produces 309,000 barrel per day (bpd), Abdallah port refinery with a production capacity of 270,000 bpd and then Al Shuaibah which produces 200,000 barrel daily – Albawaba.com
