A Kuwaiti policeman has been sentenced to death for raping a 15-year-old boy, a newspaper reported Monday.
The policeman, whose name was not disclosed, took the boy to his house where he raped him after threatening to send him to jail, Al-Rai Al-Aam said.
Although the defendant denied the charge in court, a medical report proved the boy was raped.
Death sentences, which in Kuwait are normally carried out by hanging, can be appealed twice and must receive the final approval of the emir, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah.
Seventeen people have been executed in Kuwait since the 1991 Gulf War.
Violent crime, including murder, assault and robbery, has risen sharply in this oil-rich emirate since the conflict that ended seven months of Iraqi occupation, according to official figures -- KUWAIT CITY, (AFP)
