A string of attacks killed at least 16 people across Iraq on Sunday. A bomb planted in a mini van detonated Sunday outside a hotel in downtown Baghdad, killing at least six people and wounding 16, police and witnesses said.
The bomb detonated shortly before noon outside the Palestine Hotel near a pedestrian entry point to the facility. According to the AP, the minivan was being used as a bus to ferry people from downtown Baghdad to the Karrada neighborhood.
Elsewhere, a car bomb went off in the parking lot of a government-run newspaper in Iraq's capital Sunday, killing at least two persons and injuring 30, police said. The newspaper building was also badly damaged.
According to AFP, gunmen also killed four of former Sunni Deputy Prime Minister Abd Mutlaq al-Juburi's bodyguards in an ambush on their car in Baghdad's Ameriyah neighbourhood, a security official said.
In the northern oil city of Kirkuk four Kurdish policemen were killed by alleged Sunni gunmen. In Kirkuk itself, a suicide car bomber blew himself up near the office of President Jalal Talabani's party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, killing one guard and wounding 16 party members, police said.
