ALBAWABA - At least two civilians were killed in Thailand after clashes on Thursday between Thai troops and the Cambodian army in a disputed area of their shared border, media reported.

Thai media also confirmed that two other soldiers were injured in the border clashes.

According to Thailand, Cambodian troops were the ones who started the fire first as they used heavy weapons against the Thai army. On the other hand, Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence claimed that its troops responded after being targeted by Bangkok.

The Thai embassy in Phnom Penh directed all citizens to leave Cambodia "as soon as possible" amid border violence.

"Thai citizens currently residing in Cambodia without an essential reason to remain are advised to leave the country as soon as they can do so safely," the embassy wrote on Facebook.

According to Cambodia’s Defense Ministry, Thai "F-16 fighter jet dropped (two) bombs on the road leading to Wat Kaew Seekha Kiri Svarak Pagoda."

Thailand said six F-16 jets were ready to strike Cambodia, and later on, the country allegedly said to have destroyed two regional military headquarters in Cambodia.
